POSITION SUMMARY

Core Development Engineer

BorgWarner is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Core Development Engineer at our Propulsion Technical Center in Auburn Hills, MI.  This person will be part of the research and development team in the area of new product development.  This person will research areas that can sustain our group’s success as the industry adapts to electrification.  Tasks include benchmarking of competitor products, reviewing trends in automotive propulsion technologies that may be related to our core expertise, and   supporting the development of new and existing product lines.  Some examples of existing product lines are exhaust gas management valves and actuators, as well as thermal management systems for hybrid and electric vehicles such as cabin heating or battery heating/cooling products. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Responsibility for development of new products for Emissions, Thermal, and Turbo Systems from concept to production. 

- Key areas of focus will be providing support to the designers regarding new product development, developing specifications for new products, prototype development and testing, and customer interaction to ensure specification alignment.

- Explore new technologies in the automotive market related to hybrid and electric vehicles and find ways to adapt our core competencies to these products

- Maintenance of our core designs, core strategies, and core development tools with special focus on electrical hardware

- General support of existing products/change management post-launch

- Support for the application engineering teams to solve issues during product design and testing

- Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work from initiation of design through production as well as follow up and support

- Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice. Control a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and difficult coordination requirements

- Work with the other global R&D teams on design of products and documenting best practices and lessons learned

- Work with the Technology Transfer Group (TTG) to provide product support / expertise and knowledge transfer to our global locations.

- Work in coordination with suppliers and customer efficiently, effectively, and independently

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering

• 5+ years of experience in electronic product design and development

• Experience in automotive engine components and systems

• Development and launch experience of integrated electronic and mechanical devices

• Detailed understanding of design processes

• Good presentation skills and experience

• Familiarity with GD&T practices along with Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis

• Problem solving skills using systematic approaches (8D, Six-Sigma, Shainin, etc…)

• Familiarity with electronic actuators, sensors, DC motors, and/or automotive thermal management products

• Experience and knowledge in the IATF16949 procedure and documentation requirements
