POSITION SUMMARY

The Lean Product and Process Development Facilitator plays a key role in developing new products or technologies by effectively facilitating the groups and teams to produce robust products and processes to improve Customer Value.  Architects and leads LPPD Workshops and activities using LPPD methodologies and other tools.  This person mentors and develops future facilitators, and the Cross-functional teams in the LPPD framework and methods.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect and lead Lean Product and Process Development (LPPD) workshops:
    • Facilitate Requirements gathering activities
    • Facilitate Risk assessment (PKO) workshops
    • Facilitate Rapid Learning Cycles activities
    • Facilitate 3P workshops
    • Facilitate FMEA Workshops
    • Facilitate VAVE Activities
  • Coach other facilitators with their LPPD workshop planning and facilitating
  • Mentor trainee facilitators and train them in the LPPD methods
  • Keep track and report on workshop achievements in regard to savings and improvements
  • Optimize current 3P workshop methods and processes - Research and develop methods to engage BorgWarner in more LPPD methods. (Ex. Obeya room, DFMEA workshops, value stream mapping processes, rapid learning cycles, design checklists, lessons learned, trade-off curves/ visual knowledge, eliminating knowledge gaps, etc.)
  • Work with other lean organizations and academia to benchmark the latest LPPD methods - Apply LPPD methods to all functions involved in the product development process, to prevent quality and performance issues early on.
  • Help change the culture of BW ETTS to one focused on lean product and process development
  • Broadcast LPPD achievements throughout all of BW ETTS.
  • Maintain, optimize, and promote PKO processes, tools, and methodology
  • Facilitate FMEA workshops with Design and Process teams on AAA programs
  • Benchmark FMEA facilitation workshop methods internal and external to BorgWarner

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Demonstrate world-class skills and knowledge in LPPD framework and methodologies
  • Previous experience and expertise in product and technology development processes or procedures including APQP. Experienced launching a product through a product development process (TDP/PDP)
  • Possess strong Lean Methods knowledge and conducting Lean workshops including Product and process development such as 3P.
  • Have worked with Agile/Scrum methodologies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a basic understanding of DFSS principals and Failure Mode Analysis methods.
  • Familiarity with FMEA Global Standards Such as VDA, SAE, AIAG, Etc.
  • Have excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Published Knowledge based articles on LPPD
  • Generate innovative solutions and novel ways to introduce the full spectrum of LPPD to the organization.

Education, Skills, Knowledge Requirements:

  • Possess an undergraduate degree in engineering.
  • Graduate degree such as MBA an asset
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience
  • 1+ years’ experience with leading Lean Product and Process Development activities
  • 1+ years’ experience in Managing APQP
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Lean Engineer, Product Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer or similar
