BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for a dynamic, results driven individual to join us as a System FMEA engineer as part of the systems engineering team at our Bascharage, Luxembourg or Nuremberg, Germany technical centers.

The PowerDrive Systems business unit is at the cutting edge of vehicle electrification technology, focusing on developing products for the fully electric vehicle solutions of the future. The System FMEA engineer is an essential role that ensures that safety is designed into our culture and products. The role utilizes your existing knowledge in embedded hardware and software, combined with leadership skills, to drive actions across multiple disciplines and global locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership
    • Interface to global OEMs
    • Lead internal FMEA activities with multiple, cross competency project teams
    • Drive knowledge and training of the FMEA process
    • Monitor and report out progress
    • Plan and drive project deliverables for FMEA milestone completion
    • Facilitate technical discussions.
    • Review RPNs and help drive actions to close high ranking issues
    • Report out progress and risks to senior management

  • Technical
    • Build product knowledge in inverters, traction motors and electrification systems
    • Utilize existing knowledge in embedded software and hardware to direct teams
    • Guide teams in RPN rating methodology
    • Methodical and detailed approach to risk identification and mitigation.

  • Process
    • Support the definition and continuous improvement of systems engineering processes, methods, and tools
    • Document and share best-practices
    • Mentor less experienced engineers; role model for BW Beliefs


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or similar
  • Experience developing FMEA’s for embedded systems
  • Previous experience using industry standard tools a big plus eg. Plato E1ns, Apis IQ, Ansys Medini
  • Automotive electronics industry experience preferred
  • Product knowledge of vehicle electrification inverters, traction motors and control software a plus.
  • Good communication, leadership and self-motivated
  • Fluency in English is required. German and/or French would be an advantage
