BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Functional Safety Scrum-Master at our Customer Technology Center Michigan (CTCM) in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

In this role, and under direct supervision of the Software Engineering Group Manager, the Functional Safety Scrum-Master will act as the “engine” of the functional safety team to maximize the team’s productivity in whatever ways possible.

Job Duties:

  • Guiding the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers.
  • Guiding the team on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks.
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
  • Build a team to deliver results per timeline
  • Coordinate systems inputs needed for delivery
  • Support software process adherence and compliance with Quality Assurance standards
  • Coordinate/lead global steering, iteration planning, and stand-up meetings
  • Lead a team of cross-competency functional safety engineers from an administrative standpoint.
  • Coordinate Functional Safety Team activities such as:
    • Training sessions
    • Alignment meetings (i.e. daily standups)
    • Sprint and PI planning sessions
    • Sprint Retrospectives
  • Maintain visibility as the team’s main point of contact for process, standardization, status questions to both internal team members as well as external colleagues/customers.
  • Assist the Functional Safety Product Owner with refinement and creation of the team’s activity backlog
  • Assist team members in removing progress barriers of any type, such as:
    • Preventing interruptions/distractions
    • Obtaining tool licenses
    • Tracking down a person for discussion
  • Surfacing, escalating, and driving to resolution all issues/risks that the team is facing
  • Lead in establishing and maintaining a positive and collaborative environment within the team where challenges and problems can be raised without blame or judgement.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Management
  • 1+ years' experience as a Scrum-Master for a software development team that was diligently applying AGILE/Autoscrum principles, practices, and theory.
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and transparency.
  • Experience with Activity Management Software (i.e. Jira) and Requirements Management Software (i.e. Polarion)
  • Fundamental understanding of automotive systems and software development processes using the V-Model for both design and verification/validation activities
  • Comfortable in an administrative leadership position with strong inter-personal skills
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% as required to support customer and internal needs

Preferred Experience:

  • Basic understanding of AUTOSAR and Functional Safety (i.e. ISO 26262)
  • Ability to read source code (i.e. C/C++/Java/etc.)
  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, FDD, Kanban, Crystal, SAFe, LeSS, etc.
  • Excellent written and mentoring skills.

This position will adhere to the Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices and training as outlined in the BorgWarner Safety Policy Manual.  This individual will work in a manner that stresses the importance of preventing accidents and illnesses.  He/she must take every precaution reasonable in the given circumstance for the protection of themselves and co-workers.  In addition, he/she is responsible for reporting all injuries and/or possible dangerous situations, incidents, or occurrences to their immediate supervisor.
