The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos, fan, and fan drive components for the automotive industry. This position will perform controls engineering function for manufacturing areas by recommending and/or implementing hardware/programming solutions that adhere to required plant safety and product quality standards for cost reduction, continuous improvement, and special projects. Ensures safe working practices are designed into all processes. Interacts with co-workers from all levels of the organization in cross-functional teams to achieve goals.

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers to develop equipment and controls for new products

as well as improving existing equipment (cycle time, scrap reduction, improved quality, etc).

  • Work with Maintenance to troubleshoot equipment, reduce equipment downtime, and execute

plant equipment moves / modifications.

  • Works with equipment vendors / external contractors to install new equipment or upgrade existing

equipment.

  • Maintains all programs (PLC, vision, robot, etc) used on the manufacturing floor.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineer with specifying and installing new equipment including review/verification of safety systems, programming integration, connection to pertinent data collection systems, etc.
  • Interacts effectively with all levels of the organization, frequently participating on or leading cross functional teams.
  • Works within design procedures of ISO and Quality Systems.
  • Willingness to travel to equipment vendor location.
  • Assures adherence to standard manufacturing practices.
  • Understands and adheres to current quality and control policies. 
  • Understands and adheres to current health, safety, and environmental policies. 
  • Identifies and closes safety issues (suggestions, inspection and investigation findings) and their corrective actions.   
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • This position requires a BS degree in one of the following:
  • Controls Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Computer Science

Specific industry experience may be substituted in certain cases.

  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs using RSLogix 5000 and RSLogix 500 is required. Experience programming and troubleshooting Siemens SIMATIC PLCs is a plus.
  • Experience with machine vision programming is required (Cognex vision experience is a plus).
  • Experience troubleshooting and programming robots is required (FANUC and EPSON experience is a plus).
  • Knowledge and experience working with databases (MS SQL) and ability to interface with PLC via RSSQL, FTTM (Factory Talk Transaction Manager), Ignition, or equivalent is required.
  • Experience designing safety systems is preferred.
  • Automotive product knowledge (engine systems etc) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAP system is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required.
  • Knowledge of MS .NET programming is a plus.
  • Prefer at least 1 year of experience working with automated machinery in a manufacturing setting.
  • Prefer at least 1 year of experience managing capital projects (cost justification, timelines/milestones, etc). 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

This position will adhere to the BorgWarner Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This individual will work in a way that stresses the importance of preventing injury, accidents, or illnesses to themselves or co-workers by correcting or reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or occurrences to their Team Lead immediately.
