Position Summary


The Wire Bonder Technician is responsible for operating wire bonders, making machine adjustments and wire bonding product recovery/rework including inspecting, identifying root cause in faulting production and ensuring that module assemblies meet production specifications.   

Internal candidates will be selected based on an interview including but not limited to skill set, attitude, and presenteeism.

The schedule for this role will be 6:00PM - 6:30AM, rotating nights. This is not a swing shift, however the nights in which you work, rotates. You work 3 nights one week and 4 nights the next week.

Standard Duties:

  • Technical understanding of modules repairs. (i.e, Thermistor Temperature Sensors, Cell Censor gaps, rework bonding, glue and screw issues). 
  • Identify gaps in faulted circuit boards, perform soldering to replace faulty sensors and be able to rework modules. 
  • All employees are responsible for meeting daily KPI’s.
  • Submit system checks on faulted products. 
  • Perform routine electronic assembly operations on components or subassemblies. 
  • Independent monitoring and operation of the production equipment. Auditing equipment for proper functioning, maintain fluid levels and reporting deviations.
  • Maintenance and cleaning of equipment, work area and facility based on 5s standards. 
  • Load/unload stations using proper handling equipment.  
  • Maintain quality standards by following proper inspection procedure, while also adhering to current quality and control policies 
  • Assemble cell pairs and modules using hand tools, power tools or automated machines.  (i.e., crimps, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, welds, solders, cements, press fits, lifting hoist).
  • Understand and read plans and blueprints regarding the technical aspects of batteries to comprehend specifications and requirements.
  • Plan, deploy, troubleshoot, adjust and test low voltage wiring.
  • Measure voltage, current, resistance or other electrical characteristics by using electrical measuring equipment such as multimeters, voltmeters, and ammeters.
  • Assemble cell pairs and modules in accordance with approved BorgWarner work instructions. 
  • May install multi-level subassemblies and modules into pallet.
  • Use appropriate hold tags to process and sort defective parts through nonconforming material procedure.
  • Maintain compliance with good manufacturing practices and facilitate 5S standard in production area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety, Health & Physical Requirements

  • Moderate lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding, and complying with BorgWarner safety policies and procedures.
  • Repetitive use of hands and wrist.
  • This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping, or kneeling, close eye work, reaching, pulling, or pushing.
  • Requires wearing electrical personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to operate and multi-task between 2 to 3 stations.
  • Able to crouch, bend, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color and depth variations and small details visually.
  • Up to 15% training related travel.

Education & Experience


Education: 

  • High School diploma/GED required, or basic skills assessment required.

Experience: 

  • 1+ year of working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 1+ years of Quality and product rework in a manufacturing setting required. 
  • Complete internal certification in bonding operation
  • Experience working in high voltage areas preferred. 
  • Experience in fast paced industrial lean environment preferred. 
  • Experience with bonding operations preferred. 
  • SAP experience a plus. 
  • Experience in fast paced industrial lean environment preferred.
  • Experience with simple hand tools with/without power or special assembly tools preferred.
  • Experience with troubleshooting machines/equipment preferred. 
  • Experience of using electrical test equipment such as voltmeter, resistance testers

Computer Skills: 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer knowledge.
