Supplier Quality Management Engineer

The primary function of the Sr. SQM Engineer is to identify and assess potential suppliers, conduct supplier technical reviews to support best sourcing, lead supplier APQPs, determine disposition of supplier PPAP submissions to ensure flawless launch, and manage supplier quality performance and improvement to ensure safe production in program life cycle.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Supplier Identification and Qualification

    •     Locate and identify potential suppliers that meet or exceed the needs of BorgWarner commodity strategies.

    •     Conduct on site supplier assessments of quality systems and process capabilities.

    •     Ensure that potential suppliers understand BorgWarner product requirements.  Review drawing, specifications, and other product specific requirements to ensure that supplier understands and complies with all RFQ requirements. 

  • Supplier APQP

    •     Verify supplier APQP activities at supplier’s facility. Ensure APQP progress/process integrity meets BorgWarner requirements.

    •     Assist supplier in problem solving activities to meet or exceed BorgWarner requirements.

    •     Proactively work with Suppliers to minimize and/or eliminate Launch issues

    •     Report Supplier APQP progress/problems to BW Launch Team

  • Supplier PPAP Submissions

    •     Review and ensure completeness of Supplier PPAP submissions

    •     Assure PPAP timing remains on time and meets Launch timing objectives

    •     Update/communicate PPAP timing to Launch Team members

    •     Assist and ensure that all PPAP requirements are met and documentation is up to date and on file for components within assigned commodities

  • Supplier Quality
  • Lead supplier quality problem solving, reduce and prevent supplier risks
  • Manage and improve supplier quality performance   

    •     Ensure that the supplier’s manufacturing processes will produce a quality product that meets BorgWarner requirements

    •     Conduct Supplier Audits of Implemented Corrective Actions Plans, S.C.’s and SPC Charts, Complete Quality Systems Assessment at Supplier’s facility

    •     Train suppliers to BorgWarner’s expectations and requirements

    Requirements / Qualifications

  • Be familiar with at least one of these commodities/processes: electrical, casting, machining, or stamping
  • Supply chain experience for 3-5 years and project management experience for 2 years or above.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge in manufacturing problem solving (8-D Methodology) and manufacturing processes required
  • Knowledge of QS-9000/TS16949 requirements including APQP and PPAP required
  • Knowledge of SPC required
  • Automotive experience is preferred
  • Effective communication and summarizing of business dealings in the form of trip reports, supplier contact reports and sourcing recommendations.  
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and in multi cultural groups to achieve stated goals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
