Announcement: New Leave Plan Vendor

As of July 01, 2019, BorgWarner’s disability and leave programs including, Short-Term Disability (STD),
Family Medical Leaves (FML), Paid Company Leaves, and State Mandated Leaves will be Administered by
ReedGroup. Cigna will continue to administer Long-Term Disability (LTD).

ReedGroup specializes in leave and disability administration and is an industry leader in objective claim and leave management.

Disability Coverage

A disability can have significant financial impact on a family. Not only does the income from the disabled person stop, but expenses usually increase for care. BorgWarner’s disability coverage provides you with a source of income if you are unable to work because of a non-work related short or long-term illness or injury.

Short-Term Disability

As a BorgWarner employee, you are automatically provided with Short-Term Disability coverage (or Salary Continuation) at no cost to you. Coverage begins after you have been absent from work for a specified amount of time due to a non-work-related illness or injury. It pays a portion of your annual base pay while you are disabled. Benefits end when you recover, or after six months of disability, whichever comes sooner. Short-Term Disability benefits vary by location. Please contact Human Resources for details.

Long-Term Disability

Long-Term Disability coverage generally picks up where Short-Term Disability left off. Benefits begin if you have been disabled for more than six months and meet the insurer’s definition of disabled. Depending on which coverage option you elect, benefits pay up to 50% or 70% of your annual base pay (including the average of your past three years of bonus pay) until you recover or reach normal retirement age, whichever is sooner.

Pre-Existing Condition Limitation

Benefits are not payable for medical conditions for which you incurred expenses, took prescription drugs or medicine, received medical treatment, care or services (including diagnostic measures,) or for which a reasonable person would have consulted a physician during the 3 months just prior to the most recent effective date of insurance. The pre-existing condition limitation will apply to any added benefits or increase in benefits. Benefits are not payable for any disability resulting from a pre-existing condition unless the disability occurs after you have been under this plan for 12 consecutive months.

In either long term disability plan, benefits are reduced by other income you may receive such as Social Security and/or Workers Compensation. Please see the appropriate group insurance certificate below. Cigna can advocate on your behalf to apply for Social Security benefits eligibility.
